India’s cities are at a crossroads—intense migration, fragmented urban planning, crumbling infrastructure, and growing inequality have made urban challenges too complex for governments to handle alone. Rapid urbanization has strained public services, threatened our environment, and deepened social divides, demanding urgent solutions from empowered, independent organizations. We at Urban Mitra Foundation a purpose-driven NGO (Section 8 company) dedicated to solving pressing urban challenges and transforming India’s urban landscape by directly addressing the most pressing issues. Our work spans three flagship programs:
- Advancing justice and dignity for the urban poor, ensuring access to education, healthcare, housing, and meaningful livelihoods.
- Protecting and empowering urban gig workers and informal service providers—Street side Small vendors (all categories) and service providers like Cobblers, Dhobis, and many more—who sustain the daily rhythm of city life, by fighting for their rights, security, and fair opportunities.
- Tackling environmental crises head-on: restoring and expanding green spaces, conserving water, cleaning local water bodies, and innovating sustainable waste management solutions for every neighbourhood.

A seasoned management professional with over two decades of expertise in Media, Communication, Strategy, and Program Management across leading organizations, Urban Mitra reflects his vision of making cities more resilient, sustainable, and equitable. His leadership fuels the NGO’s mission to turn urban challenges into opportunities for growth, collaboration, and impactful storytelling that inspires both people and policy. Driven by a deep sense of responsibility as an urbanite, he has always been passionate about creating inclusive, sustainable change for the marginalized and underserved in our cities. His experience in marketing communication and project strategy brings a unique blend of creative vision and executional rigor to the development space—ensuring every initiative is not just well-intentioned, but well-delivered.

Neetu Vashist is the driving force and real inspiration behind this initiative. A dedicated homemaker and avid gardener, she has long championed the cause of sustainable living through practices like home waste segregation, composting, and organic gardening. Her deep commitment to the environment is matched by her compassion for people—she actively engages in charitable work to support underprivileged families and uplift communities in need. Guided by strong values and a firm belief in the triumph of good over evil, Neetu brings both heart and vision to the NGO. Her passion, simplicity, and determination continue to inspire the team and shape the mission of creating a cleaner, greener, and more inclusive urban future.
